INDIANAPOLIS. The Indianapolis Zoo on Wednesday shared photos of their new animals – three tiger cubs!

Zoya, the Amur tigress, became the mother of triplets for the first time. The zoo reports that two boys and one girl were born on May 27 and weighed about 2 pounds each.

Three Amur tigers, a girl and two boys, were born at the Indianapolis Zoo on May 27, 2022.

The Indianapolis Zoo said tigers are inherently solitary and the zoo team is raising the cubs, which will be bottle fed for 12 weeks.

“With fewer than 100 Amur tigers in zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, our cubs are important in maintaining a healthy genetic and sustainable population,” the zoo said. “In the wild, habitat loss, human-tiger conflict, and poaching are driving the decline in the Amur tiger population.”

There will be a campaign in July to help name the three cubs and they will make their public debut in September.
