NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Pelicans second-round draft choice EJ Liddell has undergone surgery to repair a torn knee ligament, the team said Tuesday.

The 6-foot-6 forward from Ohio State was injured during a July 11 Summer League game against the Atlanta Hawks in Las Vegas.

The Pelicans said the procedure performed on Monday was a true ACL reconstruction and Liddell is out indefinitely.

Overall, Liddell averaged 19.4 points in the 41st draft and 7.9 rebounds with the Buckeyes last season.

It was unclear whether he was going to make the Pelicans’ regular-season roster as the team already had 15 players under contract for the next season. But Liddell could have been a two-pronged player, also spending time with the Pelicans’ G League affiliate in Birmingham.
