  • Before joining politics, Nitish used to work in the Bihar State Electricity Board and left the job of this board to become a politician.
  • He had also participated in the movement of Jayaprakash Narayan and it was because of this movement that he got a lot of help in becoming a leader.
  • In the year 1985, he contested the assembly elections from his state and also won in this election. He had presented his candidature in this election as an independent. After winning these elections, he was elected as the president of the youth wing of the Bharatiya Lok Dal in 1987.
  • In 1989, he was made the General Secretary of the Janata Dal Party and in the same year he also won the Lok Sabha elections and was made the Union Minister of State for Agriculture by the Central Government. At the time when he got this ministry, at that time there was a government of VP Singh at the center.
  • In the year 1991, he was elected for the second time as a member of the Lok Sabha and this time he was made the deputy leader of the party in Parliament on behalf of his party Janata Dal. Simultaneously, he was also elected as the General Secretary of his party.
  • In 1996, Nitish was again elected a member of the Eleventh Lok Sabha and during this time he was also made a member of the General Purposes Committee, Estimates Committee, Defense Committee and Constitution Joint Committee.
  • In 1998, Nitish was re-elected to the 12th Lok Sabha and this time he was made the Railway Minister. However, due to the Gasal train disaster in the year 1999, he had to leave his ministerial post. He was given this ministerial post by the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
  • In the year 1999, Nitish was re-elected to the 13th Lok Sabha and this time he was given the post of Union Cabinet Minister, Surface Transport. He was given this post on 13 October 1999 and due to some reasons he left this post on 22 November 1999. Soon after leaving this post, he was made the Minister of Agriculture and he was the Agriculture Minister of our country from 22 November 1999 to 3 March 2000.

In the year 2000, he was elected as the Chief Minister of his state for the first time. However, due to political reasons, he had to leave his post within only seven days. He took over this post on March 3, 2000, and had to leave this post on March 10 of the same year. After leaving this post, he was again made the Minister of Agriculture and he remained the Minister of Agriculture for a year.

  • Nitish’s government in Bihar has fallen many times and in this way he has been the CM of this state six times. In fact, in the year 2015, he formed the government with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s party and this government could last only for two years.
  • His party broke its alliance with Lalu’s party. Due to which his government fell. At the same time, after the fall of this government, he joined hands with the BJP party and again became the Chief Minister of the state.
