The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said police were called to the home and found a woman with a gunshot wound. According to the deputies, her teenage son and two 5-year-old boys were also in the house.

According to deputies, the woman was taken to the hospital in a critical but stable condition.

“My wife will be very, very upset,” Rushton said. “We have been here for 15 years. Very quiet area and I’m a retired firefighter and it’s peaceful. This will make us very upset because it is a very quiet street.”

According to the 15-year-old, three intruders entered the house through a side window and hit him on the back of the head, then shot and killed his mother. According to the sheriff’s representatives, the perpetrators fled and were not found.

According to deputies, the teenager received minor injuries. The rest of the boys were not hurt.

Sheriff’s officials said the shooting was not accidental.

No other details were disclosed.

The investigation is ongoing.
