FCI Update: Government bought 187.86 lakh tonnes of wheat in 3 months, 17.85 lakh farmers got benefit -EnglishHindiBlogs-Business

Food Corporation of India Update : All over the country, the central and state governments together are distributing 3 kg wheat and 2 kg rice free of cost to the ration card holder twice a month. For this, the government buys wheat and rice from time to time. Food Corporation of India (FCI) is the major agency for procurement and distribution of food grains across the country, which has so far purchased 187.86 lakh tonnes of wheat at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 37,852.88 crore. The procurement of wheat had started from the month of April 2022.

According to government sources, the procurement of wheat is going on smoothly in the Rabi marketing season 2022-23. Till June 26, 2022, 187.86 lakh tonnes of wheat has been procured, benefiting about 17.85 lakh farmers at MSP price of Rs 37,852.88 crore.

Rabi Marketing Session (RMS) runs from April to March, while Kharif Marketing Session (KMS) runs from October to September. Due to decline in wheat production and increase in exports, the wheat procurement target for the current 2022-23 RMS has been revised to 195 lakh tonnes from 444 lakh tonnes earlier.

Let us tell you that the procurement of paddy under the Central Pool, Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2021-22 is going on smoothly in various procurement states and union territories. Till June 26, 860.82 lakh tonnes of paddy (including Kharif crop 755.60 lakh tonnes and Rabi crop 105.22 lakh tonnes) has been procured in the country, benefiting 125.36 lakh farmers with an MSP price of Rs 1,68,720.89 crore. Wheat is cultivated only in Rabi/winter, while paddy is cultivated in both Kharif/summer and Rabi seasons.
