The last two clashes involved bulls or males, bison, park officials said. bull buffalo can weigh up to 2,000 pounds and reach 6 feet in height.

The last two clashes came after Yellowstone reopened part of the park to visitors after a severe flood, the most severe in the north, earlier this month.

The park was closed to all visitors on June 13. Flooding and mudslides washed out roads and caused other damage, and affected “throughput communities” and businesses that depend on park visitors.

The southern loop reopened with some restrictions on June 22, and on Thursday Yellowstone said it expects to reopen the northern loop on Sunday.

“We’ve tried to balance major recovery efforts while opening up as much of the park as possible,” Yellowstone Superintendent Cam Scholly said in statement.
