HOUSTON, TX (KTRK) — At least one person has been hospitalized after an 18-wheeler truck fell into a pit at a construction site in west Houston, police said.

Police said the disposal truck was heading south on Eldridge, south of the Katy Freeway, when the driver called police about the vehicle in front of them. The driver of the large drilling rig said they could either crash into the car or drive through the construction area, police said.

At that point, the driver chose not to hit the car and drove through a construction zone where a large drilling rig fell headfirst into a hole 20 to 30 feet deep, police said.

According to the traffic police, the truck driver was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

According to police, the hole the truck fell into is part of a waste flood control system, but the truck was not part of the construction crew.
